Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. How long I have to marinate the chicken wings for the best flavor?
For maximum flavor, marinating the wings for up to 24 hours in the refrigerator gives the spices and lemon juice the most time to fully penetrate the meat. If you’re short on time, even 30 minutes will make a noticeable difference compared to skipping the marinade altogether.
2. How do I get my chicken wings extra crispy in the oven?
The key is to arrange the wings in a layer on baking sheet without overlapping, as crowding causes them to steam rather than crisp up. Flipping them halfway through at the 30-minute mark and baking at a high temperature of 400°F ensures both sides develop a golden, crispy exterior.
3. Can I make these chicken wings in an air fryer instead of the oven?
Yes, air frying works beautifully and produces an even crispier result in less time. Cook the marinated wings at 400°F in the air fryer for about 20–25 minutes each side then toss them in the sauce just before serving.
4. Can I adjust the spice level to make them milder or hotter?
Absolutely, simply reduce or omit the red pepper and chili powder flakes for a mild version that is still packed with flavor. For extra heat, increase the cayenne or add a sprinkle of hot sauce into the marinade or the finishing sauce.
5. How should I store leftover wings and do they reheat well?
Store any leftover wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, and they actually taste even better the next day as the flavors deepen. Reheat them in the oven or air fryer at 375°F for about 8–10 minutes to bring back their crispiness rather than using a microwave.
