Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Why should Brussels sprouts be cut in half before roasting?

Halving the sprouts creates more flat surface area, which helps them caramelize and crisp up better in the oven. Whole sprouts tend to steam instead of getting that golden, crispy edge.

2. What temperature gives the crispiest Brussels sprouts?

Roasting at 425°F is hot enough to brown the outside while keeping the inside tender. Lower temperatures tend to leave the sprouts soft instead of crisp.

3. Why is stirring halfway through roasting recommended?

Flipping the sprouts partway through helps them brown evenly on both cut sides. Skipping this step can leave one side soggy while the other burns.

4. Can I skip the honey in this recipe?

Yes, the honey mainly balances the natural bitterness of the sprouts with a touch of sweetness. Leaving it out still works, though the flavor will be less caramelized.

5. How do I know when the Brussels sprouts are fully cooked?

They’re done once they turn golden brown and can be easily pierced with a fork, usually around 15 minutes. Overcooking can make them mushy, so you may need to shorten the cooking time by a few minutes if your oven tends to cook hotter than usual.
