If you’re looking for a simple yet flavorful side dish, this easy broccolini recipe is just what you need. Broccolini, often mistaken for baby broccoli, is a tender, slightly sweet vegetable with long stems and small florets. It’s perfect for those nights when you want something nutritious and quick to prepare. With just a few ingredients, you can turn broccolini into a tasty, versatile dish that pairs well with almost any meal.

Why Broccolini Is the Perfect Side Dish

This broccolini recipe is a fantastic addition to your meal rotation because it requires minimal effort and delivers maximum flavour. Unlike traditional broccoli, broccolini has a more delicate, sweeter taste and a crisp-tender texture, making it a favourite among adults and kids. It’s also packed with nutrients like vitamins C and A, fibre, and antioxidants, making it a healthy choice.

Cooking broccolini is a breeze. Depending on your preference, you can roast, sauté, steam, or grill it. This recipe focuses on sautéing because it’s quick and allows you to enhance the natural flavour of the broccolini with garlic, and lemon. It’s a perfect side dish for weeknight dinners, but it’s also elegant enough to serve at a holiday gathering or special occasion.

How to Make this Easy Broccolini

Creating this broccolini dish only takes about 10 minutes from start to finish. Here’s how you can make it:

Equipments:

  • Cooking Pot
  • Cooking Utensils
  • Strainer

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound broccolini, trimmed
  • 1 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Broccolini:
Fill a large bowl with cold water and set aside. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and season with salt. Add the broccolini, and cook for 1 minute. Remove the broccolini and immediately plunge into the bowl of cold water. When the broccolini is completely cool, drain well.
  2. Sauté the Broccolini:
Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic, and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Cook the Broccolini:
Add the broccolini to the skillet and season with salt and pepper. Sauté for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the broccolini is bright green and crisp-tender.
  4. Finish with Lemon:
Squeeze the juice of half a lemon over the broccolini and toss to coat evenly.
  5. Serve:
Transfer the broccolini to a serving platter and garnish with extra lemon wedges if you wish. Serve hot and enjoy!

Tips for Making Easy Broccolini

For the best broccolini dish, make sure to trim the tough ends before cooking. This helps ensure that the broccolini cooks evenly and remains tender. If you prefer a softer texture, you can blanch the broccolini in boiling water for an additional 1-2 minutes before sautéing. This step will make the stems more tender while preserving their vibrant colour.

Adding garlic and lemon enhances the flavour of the broccolini, but feel free to get creative with other seasonings. A sprinkle of red pepper flakes adds a bit of heat, while a dash of soy sauce or balsamic vinegar can introduce a different depth of flavour. You can also add 1/4 cup of grated parmesan which adds a delicious, nutty taste that complements the broccolini perfectly.

Variations of Easy Broccolini

If you’re looking to switch up your broccolini recipe, there are plenty of delicious variations you can try:

  1. Roasted Broccolini: For a crispy texture, toss the broccolini with olive oil, salt, and pepper, then roast in a preheated oven at 425°F for about 15-20 minutes. Roasting brings out a slightly nutty flavour and makes the stems tender.
  2. Asian-Style Broccolini: Sauté the broccolini with garlic, ginger, and a splash of soy sauce. Finish with a sprinkle of sesame seeds for a flavorful twist.

These variations allow you to customize the dish to your taste and serve it with a variety of main courses. Whether you prefer a classic garlic and lemon flavour or want to try something new, broccolini’s versatility makes it a great option.

Conclusion

This easy broccolini recipe is a must-try for anyone seeking a quick, healthy, and delicious side dish. Its delicate, sweet flavour, combined with the zesty punch of lemon and the savoury touch of Parmesan, makes it a crowd-pleaser. Plus, it’s incredibly simple to prepare, making it perfect for busy weeknights or special occasions.

About Devine Dishes A lifelong love of cooking, one delicious recipe at a time. Welcome to Devine Dishes! I'm so glad you're here. I'm the cook, recipe creator, and food lover behind this little corner of the internet. Born and raised in Kenya, my love for cooking started when I was very young. Even as a child, I would happily volunteer to cook for the family, leaving the dishes and laundry for my siblings. Looking back, I think I had already discovered my passion and a clever way to avoid some chores! 😜 Where My Love for Cooking Began In high school, I chose Home Science and quickly discovered that baking was something I truly enjoyed. I went on to win awards in provincial school baking competitions for three consecutive years. Those were incredibly proud moments for me, and I loved the feeling of creating something delicious with my own hands. But not everyone saw cooking the way I did. I still remember the day my chemistry teacher laughed out loud in class after I received one of my baking medals. He told me I was wasting my time with cooking and that I should focus on the sciences, which would give me a better future than cookies and cakes. It was an embarrassing moment, especially as a student who was proud of something she had worked hard to achieve. But I didn't stop cooking. That experience stayed with me, not because it changed my passion, but because it reminded me that sometimes you have to believe in yourself even when others don't understand your dreams. From Cooking for Family to Building a Food Business Over the years, my love for cooking has taken me on quite a journey. I've explored different food business ideas, from cooking and selling chapatis and mandazis to catering, meal preparation, and delivery. Each experience taught me something new about food, business, and the joy of sharing a good meal with others. Today, I'm excited to bring that passion to food blogging. Devine Dishes is a place where I share the recipes I love, the ones I'm learning, and the ones I can't wait for you to try. You'll find African and Kenyan favorites, comforting family meals, delicious baking recipes, and practical dishes that make cooking at home enjoyable. My goal is simple: to help you discover recipes that are delicious, approachable, and worth making again. More Than Just Recipes For me, food has always been about more than feeding people. It's about family, memories, creativity, and bringing people together. When I'm not working, you'll often find me trying out new recipes, creating and editing content, or spending time with family. Sometimes we're swimming, watching TV, or simply chatting over a good meal. Those ordinary moments are some of my favorite moments. I also love traveling and discovering new places, cultures, and foods. I'm hoping to do much more of it in the near future, and I'm excited about the inspiration those experiences will bring to my cooking and future recipes. Thank You for Being Here Whether you're visiting Devine Dishes for a Kenyan recipe, looking for something delicious to bake, or simply exploring new meals to try, thank you for being part of this journey. Every recipe shared here is a little piece of my love for cooking, my experiences, and the belief that it's never too late to pursue something you're passionate about. I hope you find something delicious, make wonderful memories around your table, and come back often. Happy cooking! With love, Milli The heart behind Devine Dishes
