Easy Avocado Smoothie Recipe

Are you looking for a delicious and healthy smoothie recipe that will leave you feeling satisfied and energized? Look no further than the avocado blueberry smoothie! This tasty blend of creamy avocado and sweet blueberries is not only delicious but also packed with nutrients that will help fuel your day.

Why Each Ingredient Matters

To prepare this smoothie you will need:

Avocado

Avocado is a fantastic source of healthy fats, fibre, and vitamins C and K. It also contains potassium, which can help regulate blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease. It needs to be medium-ripe. Over or under-ripe will change the taste of the smoothie.

Blueberries

Blueberries are also a nutritional powerhouse, packed with antioxidants, fibre, and vitamins C and K. I prefer frozen blueberries because it gives the smoothie a nice cool feeling that would only be achieved by adding ice cubes. If you have fresh blueberries, you can wash, pat dry and freeze them in batches before use or use them fresh then add a half cup of ice cubes.

Bananas

You will need ripe bananas. No exemption here. Don’t go too ripe otherwise, your smoothie will have a weird taste. The best bananas are the ones that are medium-ripe with black spots. You can substitute for frozen if that’s what you have on hand. However, I highly recommend fresh bananas. It gives the smoothie a very smooth and nice texture.

Milk

You can use whole milk, 2% or whatever percentage you have. Stick to almond milk if you are watching your sugar/carb intake. Almond milk is known to have very few calories and sugar, therefore, a great substitute. Please feel free to substitute with any kind of milk that suits your preference.

Spinach

Fresh spinach is the way to go here. If you want more vegetables, you can double on the spinach or add kale but this will change the taste a bit.

Whey Protein

This is optional but will give the smoothie a very nice texture. It also gives you an extra protein boost. You can add more bananas as a substitute.

Sweetener

This is optional as well. I love my smoothie a bit sweet so you can eliminate it or replace it with your preferred sweetener, honey, agave syrup or sugar.

There are so many things you can add/replace to this recipe to complete your daily goals. Some examples include chia seeds, hemp seeds, plain/Greek yogurt, kefir, peanut butter, kiwi, strawberries, mangos, pineapples, fresh ginger and turmeric etc. Feel free to explore different options.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Will I taste the avocado in this smoothie?

No, the blueberries, banana, and other ingredients mask the avocado flavor completely. Thanks to all the other ingredients, you won’t taste avocado in the smoothie at all. What avocado does contribute is a rich, creamy texture.

2. Can I make this smoothie ahead of time?

It’s best served fresh. Smoothies tend to separate as they sit, so they’re generally best consumed right away. However, you can pre-portion all the ingredients into a zip-lock bag and freeze them, then blend with milk in the morning.

3. Can I use fresh blueberries instead of frozen?

Yes, but frozen are preferred. In order to get that cold, thick smoothie texture, at least one ingredient needs to be frozen. If you use fresh blueberries, add a handful of ice cubes to compensate.

4. Is this smoothie healthy?

Absolutely. Avocados are highly nutritious, containing folate, potassium, healthy fats, and vitamins K, C, and E, while blueberries are low in calories yet packed with antioxidants. Together they make a nutrient dense, filling breakfast.

5. Can I freeze leftover smoothie?

Yes! A smoothie may only last a day or two in the fridge, but freezing extends the shelf life to three or four weeks. Once frozen, it becomes a healthy, fruit-based frozen snack you can enjoy anytime.
