Instructions

    Soak the Rice

    • Place rice in a bowl and cover with water. Let it soak for 30 minutes.
    • After washing, rinse thoroughly using a fine-mesh strainer under cold running water.
    • This step removes excess starch that can make rice sticky.

    Measure the Water

    • Use 1 1/2 cups of water for every cup of rice.
    • Pour the water into a pot or saucepan.
    • Add butter, oil, and salt if desired.

    Bring to a Boil

    • Set the pot over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a boil.

    Reduce Heat and Cover

    • Once it boils, immediately reduce to the lowest heat setting and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid.

    Simmer the Rice

    • Let the rice cook undisturbed for 10–15 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed and the grains are tender.
    • Avoid lifting the lid or stirring during this process.

    Let It Rest and Fluff

    • Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit, covered, for a few minutes.
    • Then, use a fork to fluff the rice and gently separate the grains.
