Simple Cabbage Sausage Skillet Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 4 smoked sausage or preferred sausage chopped lengthwise
  • 4 strips bacon chopped into small pieces
  • 1 medium onion thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp garlic minced
  • 1 medium red bell pepper sliced
  • 1 medium cabbage cored and chopped
  • 1 tbsp cajun seasoning or more to taste
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 tsp crushed pepper optional, adjust to taste
  • 1 tsp scallions chopped to garnish

Instructions
 

  • In a medium skillet, cook bacon until brown.
  • Add the sausages, sautee for 2 minutes then add the garlic and onion and sautee for another 2 minutes. Add butter and continue to cook until it melts and is bubbly.
  • Add the cajun seasoning and mix well to combine.
  • Add the cabbage and cover. Cook for 5 minutes
  • Remove the lid and stir to mix. Once it softens, add the bell pepper and stir again. You can remove them from the stove at this point if you like the bell peppers crunchy or cover and simmer for an additional 2 minutes.
  • Taste and adjust salt to taste. Serve and sprinkle scallions to garnish
